The TCD School of English Evening Lectures 2022 begin on Tuesday, 4th October featuring an introduction to major authors of poetry, drama and prose, chosen from among those prescribed for the Leaving Certificate 2023.

Trinity School of English staff, will provide a close examination of selected texts, chosen from among those prescribed for the Leaving Certificate. The course will be of special interest to teachers and pupils preparing for the examination but the lectures will be directed towards a more general audience as well.


€50 for the entire series. Individual lectures are €5 each. Concessionary rates for the full series will be €40 or individual lecture €4 each. The concessionary rate applies to: students, OAPs, unemployed, groups of 20+; TCD staff and Graduates.

There will be ten weekly lectures. Lectures will be uploaded at 7pm on Tuesdays. Registration for individual lectures will close at 6pm on the relevant day.

4th October – Prof. Darryl Jones – Casablanca

11th October – Dr. Ema Vyroubalova – William Shakespeare, Macbeth

18th October – Dr. Tom Walker – Poems by W.B. Yeats

25th October – READING WEEK – No lecture

1st November – Prof. Jarlath Killeen – Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray

8th November – Dr. Mark Sweetnam – Poems by John Donne

15th November – Dr. Rebecca Long – Jason Wallace, Out of Shadows

22nd November – Prof. Nicholas Grene – Lorraine Hansberry, A Raisin in the Sun

29th November – Prof. Andrew Murphy – Poems by Patrick Kavanagh

6th December – Prof. Stephen Matterson – Poems by Adrienne Rich

13th December – Dr. Rosie Lavan – Poems by Paula Meehan
