The next Dublin Camera Club 9 Week on-line Course starts on 20th September 2023 at 7.30 pm.

 

Course Dates:

The 90 minute sessions will take place on Wednesdays at 7.30 pm via Zoom on 20th and 27th September, 4th 11th 18th and 25th October, 1st 8th and 15th November.

Course Outline:

INTRODUCTION TO CAMERAS AND EQUIPMENT An introduction to the different types of cameras, lenses and accessories, with an explanation of their uses and applications.

EXPOSURE – PART 1  An explanation of the various exposure techniques which may be used in film and digital cameras, their uses, and the effects obtainable.

COMPOSING THE PHOTOGRAPH  Arranging the elements of the picture to produce the most pleasing effect; what to avoid and some of the guidelines which may be used to improve your pictures.

IMAGE EDITING  This session will cover software options, cropping for a better composition and how to change the tone and mood of an image with basic editing.

LANDSCAPE & TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY  How to capture memorable images whilst exploring nature and on holiday, handling typical challenges which may arise.

EXPOSURE – PART 2   Revisiting the basics of exposure and looking at some more advanced aspects.

PEOPLE PHOTOGRAPHY  This module will introduce some of the techniques and approaches to taking individual portrait and group pictures (including street photography), together with an introduction to flash photography.

MONOCHROME PHOTOGRAPHY   An introduction to monochrome photography with all its beautiful particularities and challenges.

COURSE SUM-UP & LAUNCH OF COURSE EXHIBITION  A summing up of some of the main points raised during the course and advice on what to do next.  We will showcase some of the Students’ images in an exhibition at the end of the course and the selected images will be shown tonight.

The course is a general introduction to photography and is suitable for both absolute beginners and people with a little basic photographic knowledge or those who wish to refresh their knowledge.

FREE OPTIONAL EXTRAS

Mentoring:   Participants have the option to attend a ‘Camera Essentials’ mentoring night at our premises in Camden Street.  This session will take place at 7.30 PM on Monday 25th of September.  The session will help you understand the buttons on the back of your camera with the support of experienced members of our club.

At the commencement of the course participants will be divided in to small groups and will be allocated a mentor to guide and advise them during the course. Mentors usually provide two mentoring sessions.  Participants can choose between outdoor walkabouts in Dublin or on-line mentoring.

End of Course Exhibition:  At the end of the course participants are encouraged to enter some photographs into the Course Showcase which will be shown on the last night and appear in the gallery on our website.

Associate Membership:   An additional benefit for participants is that they are given Associate Members for the 9 weeks of the course. This allows participants to attend club meetings and workshops.

About Dublin Camera Club

Dublin Camera Club is the largest camera club in Ireland and celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2020.  The Dublin Camera Club is a non-profit organisation, with charitable purpose, run by its members for its members. The Club operates from premises at 10 Lower Camden Street, Dublin 2.

For many years Dublin Camera Club has hosted Introduction to Photography courses in the city.  You can choose between online 9 week evening courses or two day in-person course in our clubhouse in Camden Street.
