Ever Thought About Becoming an Adventure Centre Instructor?

Before applying for instructor jobs, it’s important to build up demonstrable outdoor recreation experience through means like courses, volunteer work, club leadership, relevant travel or summer camps. Develop your hard skills leading groups in one or more adventure disciplines.

Most employers will require certifications in areas like first aid, CPR, ropes courses, lifeguarding, etc.  Many providers offer certification camps and internships to prep for this career.

Beyond your technical skills, highlight your teamwork, communication, creativity and service-focused mindset. Ability to build rapport, mentor others, resolve conflicts and make safety fun are key.

There are different types of adventure centre jobs both here and abroad from parks, centres to camps through to corporately-focused facilitators. Identify providers aligned with your experience, skills and interests. Be willing to work seasonally to get a foot in the door.

With training, passion and the right qualifications, you’ll be ready to launch your dream career as an adventure guide.

And the best part? Every day at work will feel like play!
