Duncan (they/them) is a queer GP in Brighton, England, and academic at the Brighton & Sussex Medical School. In general practice, Duncan leads for the care of trans and gender diverse patients, as well as mental health. They have previously been in leadership roles in primary care, and has experience in directing urgent care, sexual health, and substance addiction care in different parts of England.

Prior to qualifying in medicine, Duncan was a biology teacher, and developed expertise in supporting adult learners with learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, ADHD etc). This fuelled their passion for education – consequently leading them to complete their masters, and then their PhD in medical education. Much of Duncan’s research has been focused on learner support, inclusion and curriculum design in medical education. Clinical research has focused on understanding and addressing health inequalities faced by marginalised communities – with more recent work focusing on the trans and gender diverse community.
