The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institute, active worldwide. We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange.

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany with a global reach.

We promote knowledge of the German language abroad and foster international cultural cooperation. We convey a comprehensive image of Germany by providing information about cultural, social and political life in our nation. Our cultural and educational programmes encourage intercultural dialogue and enable cultural involvement. They strengthen the development of structures in civil society and foster worldwide mobility.

With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe Centres, cultural societies, reading rooms and exam and language learning centres, we have been the first point of contact for many with Germany for over sixty years. Our long-lasting partnerships with leading institutions and individuals in over ninety countries create enduring trust in Germany. We are partners for all who actively engage with Germany and its culture, working independently and without political ties.

The Goethe-Institut Irland organises and supports a wide spectrum of cultural events which present German culture abroad and promote the inter-cultural dialogue. Our Language Department promotes the German language in Ireland through its language courses, examinations, training seminars for teachers and its advertising campaigns for German.

The Information and Library Service of the Goethe-Institut Irland provides information on current aspects of cultural, social and political life in Germany. It offers extensive collections of books and other media to those who are interested in Germany, and together with the Teachers’ Library, it is the first point of contact for those who are interested in learning or teaching German.

The redevelopment of the Goethe-Institut’s Irish HQ at 37 Merrion Square will see the 1790 Georgian townhouse refurbished to its period glory and welcome the creation of a contemporary mews building for the language school and a new garden on the site. The Goethe-Institut will relocate all services to 62 Fitzwilliam Square until the Merrion Square building re-opens in 2018.
