This Irish Medtech Skillnet course develops the skills required by industrial maintenance technicians to safely diagnose and repair faults in electrically controlled equipment. This uniquely practical course focuses on replicating real-life scenarios using specialist industrial equipment and troubleshooting simulation software. The course will enable maintenance staff to be effective in the use of preventative and corrective maintenance strategies when working on modern production systems and components. Skillnet can incorporate your application specific drawings into the course to ensure good skill transfer after the course.

Course Delivery
• The course dates are February 8, 10, 15, 16, 20, 21
Day 2 is online, all other days in person.
Aspect Hotel, Park West Dublin 12.
• The course is a combination of in person meeting days (5), online webinars and self-directed learning activities scheduled over 6 days during a 3-week period.
• There are additional self-directed hours of learning at home, both as revision between course days and pre course work before the course starts.
• The online course resources needed for self-directed hours are available for several weeks before and after the webinars.
• To engage fully with the online webinars, learners will need a computer with a webcam, microphone, and high-speed internet. They should also have Google Chrome. Theory exams and electrical schematics assessment take place online during the course.
• For practical assessment learners are asked to video themselves using the training kits and schematics provided to demonstrate wiring and fault-finding skills
• Desktop training kits are provided to each person. Kits include electrical components, Fuses, Power supplies, Switches, Reed Switches, Sensors, Solenoids, Transformers, Relays, Contactors
• Troubleshooting simulation software is available for additional practise and interactive learning.
Content includes
At the end of the course the participants will be able to:
1. Test electrical systems to narrow down a problem area.
2. List electrical hazards when testing live systems and list ways to minimise hazards.
3. Use electrical schematics to navigate a system effectively.
4. Setup and troubleshoot a range of automation sensors.
5. Carry out LOTO procedures correctly.
6. Describe the operating principle of fuses, MCBs and RCDs.
7. Competently use multi-meters and grip-ons to test systems.
8. Wire and test 3-phase motor circuits controlled by contactors and overloads
9. Use the diagnostic features of VSDs to fault-find.
10. Follow a method for fault-finding PLC controlled systems
11. Demonstrate how to troubleshoot a range of common faults on workbased technology.
Who should attend
Industrial maintenance personnel who would like to increase their electrical troubleshooting skills. You do not need to be formally qualified as an electrician to do this course. So, whether you are starting a career in industrial maintenance, or you are already engaged in maintenance of equipment systems but want to develop your skills further, this training course is ideal for you.

Eligibility Criteria
A learner seeking entry to this Level 6 programme does not need a previous formal qualification but should have relevant work or life experience to have reached the standards of knowledge, skill and competence associated with Level 5 of the National Framework of Qualifications. Learners would typically be working in a manufacturing environment and are members of the equipment maintenance team. If English is not your first language, you will have to be able to read and write in English to a certain level in order to successfully complete this course. Applicants whose first language is not English must have minimum IELTS level of 6 or equivalent for course entry.
