Creative Writing: Introduction – REMOTE

Have you ever wanted to write short stories or even try a novel? Have you dreamed of seeing your play on stage, your film on screen, or even stunning audiences with your poetry?

This exciting and highly popular course is now available remotely by video conference, email or phone. You can even participate by post if you wish. Zero technical expertise is required to take part. The course itself introduces participants to the craft of creative writing while working in a range of genres such as sci-fi, crime, horror and realism. We will share work, exchange feedback and discuss routes to publication. Suitable for those seeking a rewarding pastime or as an introduction to an exciting professional career as a creative writer. Includes post-course editorial. Limited places.

About the facilitator:
Martin Keaveney has been facilitating creative writing courses at Galway Arts Centre since 2018. He also lectures on Irish Literature at NUIG’s Autumn Series. His debut novel, Delia Meade, was published in 2020 by Penniless Press, UK.  His debut collection of stories, The Rainy Day, was published by Penniless Press in 2018. Short fiction has been published in many literary journals in Ireland, UK and US. He has also written for the screen and his writing has been produced and exhibited at many international film festivals and on broadcast television. His scholarship was recently published in the peer-reviewed journals New Hibernia ReviewEstudios Irlandeses and the Journal of Franco-Irish Studies. He has a B.A. in English and Italian, an M.A in English (Writing) and a Ph.D. from NUIG (Creative Writing and Textual Studies). He was awarded the Sparanacht Ui Eithir for his research in 2016 and the NUIG Write-Up Bursary in 2018. See more at

You are posted the weekly class slides.
You post in your weekly writing. (Typed or handwritten)
You can phone or email at any time.

You are emailed the weekly class slides.
You are sent a link to an audio file tutorial.
You interact via email with tutor and other class members and complete assignments.

Video Conference
You are emailed the weekly class slides.
You attend a video class each week where you listen to a live tutorial and attend a live writing workshop, where you can read your work and receive feedback.
Zero technical expertise is required. All security features are enabled.

Phone Conference
You are texted course information each week.
You attend the class by phone.

Combinations of the above available at no extra cost, please enquire. All remote courses cost the same.
