The BA in Community Studies (Social Sciences) is specifically designed for adult students who are interested in pursuing a part-time degree at night. This flexible degree has been developed for people who are busy with work, family and daily life.  If you are interested in Community work, addiction and recovery, Youth studies, history, politics, development, adult education, society and culture and have two free evenings a week, then this wide-ranging degree will appeal to you.

Course Duration 2 x 12 week semesters over the academic year Sept-Dec. and Feb-May. Full Degree Cycle 4.5 years. Students may avail of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) up to a maximum of 60ECTS.
Course Times BA Community Studies is a completely Modular Degree. Classes are delivered between 6.15-10.00 on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (with a 30 minute break between modules). Students must attend both nights of their first semester Sept. - Dec. but can choose how many modules and how many nights they wish to attend from the beginning of their second semester.

Entry Requirements Applicants must be 21 years or older on 1 January of the year of entry. Application through the CAO Course Code MH803. Eligible candidates are invited for interview. Applications for the Part-Time BA in Local Studies and BA in Community Studies through the CAO will be accepted through the Available Placed Facility from August 2020. Career Path Community Studies students are often active at some level in the community and voluntary sector. Graduates of the BA Community Studies degree acquire knowledge and develop skills that are desirable in the statutory, community and voluntary sectors. Our graduates have progressed to work in the areas of adult and further education and training; adult literacy, community development, teaching, drug and alcohol services, civil service and Non-Governmental Organisations. Some graduates decide to proceed into postgraduate study in fields of interest such as education, guidance and counselling, citizenship, social inclusion and social cohesion, regeneration, narrative enquiry, gender studies, politics and sociology or directly on to the HDip.
