Creative Embroidery (CE)
Crumlin College of Further Education (CDETB)
The Creative Embroidery course will cover a range of hand-stitches and applique techniques through demonstration, practice sampling and the application of techniques to tutor led or the student’s own embroidery projects. Students will be encouraged to explore and consider alternate ways of approaching traditional stitch techniques. Suitable for beginners or more advanced.
Materials
Participants to supply own materials. Tutor will supply hand-outs on the stitches and techniques to be covered.
Essential materials to start with
-Embroidery hoop wooden or plastic (medium size – 6 or 8 inch).
– Needles: embroidery/crewel needles (size 5 or 7) or packet of household assorted sewing needles.
– Scissors.
– Selection of embroidery threads.
– Plain weight medium cotton fabric for sampling- ½ yd approx. or scraps large enough to fit in the hoop (10” square approx). Felt would also work for sampling.
Other materials can be purchased as course progresses.
Initial material suitable for sampling- medium weight calico, cotton or linen, recycled cotton sheeting / tablecloths/clothes (shirts /dresses).
