Heritage Ireland 2030 Summit

31st October 2025
Est. Reading: 2 minutes

The fourth annual Heritage Ireland 2030 Summit took place recently at Trinity College Dublin, bringing together heritage practitioners, community leaders, and members of the public to share insights, strengthen collaboration, and celebrate Ireland’s rich cultural and natural heritage.

Opened by Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity, Christopher O’Sullivan TD, this year’s Summit centred on the theme “Connecting Heritage and Youth.” The event underscored the importance of involving younger generations in preserving and interpreting Ireland’s heritage as part of the ongoing implementation of Heritage Ireland 2030, the Government’s long-term national heritage plan launched in 2022.

Throughout the day, participants explored creative initiatives and local projects that are inspiring young people to connect with their surroundings and cultural identity. Highlights included:

  • A team of young “heritage detectives” uncovering local history in Inishowen, Co Donegal.

  • Students from Inch National School, Co Clare, adopting and studying a nearby ringfort as part of their learning.

  • The inclusion of children’s voices in heritage storytelling at Ireland’s National Parks.

  • Innovative projects where young participants re-imagine the life and times of Ireland’s historic ‘big houses’, such as Larchill in Co Meath.

The Heritage Ireland 2030 Summit continues to serve as a cornerstone event in advancing the national heritage plan, fostering collaboration among practitioners, policymakers, and communities across Ireland. This year’s focus on youth engagement reflects a growing recognition that safeguarding heritage is not only about conservation but also about inspiring connection, curiosity, and care among future custodians.
