Sewing - Dressmaking

Course Description:

Ready to take your sewing skills to the next level? This 8-week course is designed for learners who have completed a beginners’ sewing class and want to gain confidence working with commercial patterns in order to produce their own clothes. You’ll learn how to read and interpret commercial patterns and instructions, choose suitable fabrics, adjust sizing, and assemble garments step-by-step. By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills to make clothes that fit and flatter — and the confidence to tackle new projects independently.

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Read and interpret commercial sewing pattern, layouts, and instructions
  • Select appropriate fabrics, notions, and tools for specific projects
  • Accurately measure and adjust patterns for individual fit
  • Cut and mark fabric following pattern layouts
  • Assemble garments using correct sewing techniques and finishes
  • Confidently troubleshoot common fitting or construction issues
  • Complete a simple garment from a commercial pattern

Please note: Participants must bring their own sewing machine and have basic sewing experience equivalent to a 10-week beginners’ course.
