The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) is an independent charity committed to making sure people with literacy and numeracy difficulties can fully take part in society and have access to learning opportunities that meet their needs. On 18 November 2020, NALA will host a Literacy Awareness Training from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm.

This webinar will give you top tips about how you or your organisation can be more accessible to people with literacy or numeracy difficulties. There are benefits and cost savings of doing this. An adult literacy student and NALA staff will discuss literacy and how to deliver a literacy-friendly service.

The Literacy Awareness Training Webinar will look at:

* what is literacy

* challenges of participating fully in society with literacy needs

* how to deliver a literacy-friendly service

* how to deal sensitively with adults with literacy needs

* when and how to refer an adult to the ETB Adult Literacy Service

Who is this webinar for?

This Literacy Awareness Training webinar is for those working with the public. For example in government departments, semi-state bodies, County Councils, libraries, charities, community and voluntary sector organisations as well as health, legal and financial organisations.


Since 2000, NALA has been using television, radio, print, telephones and the internet to provide educational opportunities to people who want to improve their literacy. NALAoperate a Distance Learning Service and provide tutor support over the phone and internet. NALA also manage an e-learning website where people can have their skills assessed across a number of areas and then be prescribed an individual learning plan to improve these areas.
