Libraries Across the Dublin to Celebrate International Literacy Day

To mark International Literacy Day on September 8th, libraries across the city are showcasing a wide range of resources designed to promote adult literacy. This year’s theme, "Promoting literacy in the digital era," highlights the crucial role of digital skills in navigating an increasingly online world.

The initiative acknowledges the transformative impact of technology on how we learn, work, and communicate, and emphasizes the importance of making this digital transition inclusive for everyone. Libraries will be hosting various events to support this theme, including book displays, digital clinics, and information sessions with local adult literacy services.

Events at Local Branches

Several libraries will offer special events to assist the public:

• Coolock Library will host a digital resources clinic from September 8th to September 13th, with an information stand from the Coolock Darndale Adult Literacy service on September 9th.
• Kevin Street Library and Dolphin's Barn Library will both feature an information stand with staff from the City of Dublin FET College on September 3rd.
• Donaghmede Library will have a representative from KLEAR Kilbarrack at its information table on September 8th.

All library branches will highlight their easy-to-read collections and provide information on community resources available for those seeking to improve their literacy. Free and convenient access to technology will also be emphasized, helping people develop essential digital skills.
