IICP Colleges Summer Series 2025 kicks off with Finding Hope & Recovery from Trauma with visiting lecturer, Dr. Denis OHara (Onsite) 5th July 2025.
Trauma is a topic which raises many questions partly because it effects have numerous expressions and because these effects have been traditionally difficult to resolve within therapy. In more recent years the accumulation of research and clinical experience have provided increased insights into the nature of trauma and how best to work towards its recovery. We now recognise different forms of trauma based on their causes, either resulting from dramatic one-off events (PTSD) or developmentally from accumulative negative experiences (Complex PTSD [C-PTSD]). No matter the cause, trauma impacts peoples lives in quite profound ways, especially affecting ones sense of self and ones relationships. One of the negative outcomes of trauma experiences is a loss of hope. Hope is an essential component of recovery and hence it to needs to be addressed as part of the therapeutic process.
In this online seminar, the nature of trauma, approaches to recovery, and the importance of hope as part of the recovery journey will be explored.
The workshop is appropriate for trainee counsellors, practising counsellors and psychotherapists, counselling psychologists, and other mental health professionals.
