Today is International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) which celebrates the achievements of women engineers around the world and highlights the need for greater gender diversity in a field that shapes the way we live, build, connect, and grow.
In 2025, the theme of INWED is all about "Enhanced by Engineering", spotlighting the transformative role engineers play in solving global challenges, from climate resilience to digital infrastructure, healthcare innovation to sustainable cities. At the heart of this progress are women engineers, whose expertise, leadership, and vision are advancing technology and driving inclusive innovation across every sector.
Despite growing awareness, women remain underrepresented in engineering globally. Events like INWED are essential in challenging outdated perceptions, raising the visibility of role models, and inspiring the next generation of female talent. From structural engineers designing green buildings to software engineers building tomorrow’s AI systems, women are redefining what engineering looks like and who it’s for.
Happy International Women in Engineering Day!
