Course Content

This new course is aimed at Social Care Workers who are currently in a leadership or management post or for those who wish to progress their careers. The course is designed to enable social care graduates to develop supervisory and management competencies. In recent years management roles in the Social Care sector have undergone significant developments, primarily due to legislative and regulatory requirements. The evolving role of the manager within settings has been identified as a key driver of the provision of quality services, and central to this is the ability of managers to effectively lead people, services and projects. The proposed programme is designed to underpin management and leadership roles within social care settings and to address the professional and personal development of a cohort of emerging managers within Social Care.

Programme Vision

The vision for this course is to develop excellence in social care leadership and management in an evolving sector. Students will be facilitated to develop their capacities in delivering quality social care services grounded in the highest ethical standards of care, innovation and continuing education and research.

IT Requirements: Students on this course will be required to have a medium spec computer/laptop (i.e. able to run Win 10, an AV solution and Office comfortably. It should be able to use Wi-fi and camera in order to attend online classes, and use other software such as SPSS, Adobe Connect; e.g. Latitude 5510; Latitude 5410;

Entry RequirementsThe minimum entry requirement for this course is a Bachelor of Arts in Social Care, Social Science or equivalent NFQ Level 7 award. In addition, applicants must have at least two years post qualification experience working in a recognised social care setting.
Career PathThis course will equip graduates to compete for higher level roles in social care leadership and management. Graduates will be academically skilled to engage actively with relevant statutory and non-statutory agencies such as; TUSLA, the Child and Family Agency, the Department of Children and Youth Affairs, and the Ombudsman’s Office for Children.

Students will be managers, deputy managers, team leaders, or social care workers with knowledge and experience in leadership roles working in a range of social care services. The links developed within the group of students sharing experience and learning within the classroom will be developed further and supported by guest speakers from relevant organisations.
