Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute (DFEi) offer a wide range of full-time Further Education and Training and Evening courses including adult education and lifelong learning in Dun Laoghaire, South Co Dublin
Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute offer a wide range of Further Education and Training Courses such as full-time PLC, apprenticeship and BTEI. These courses offer excellent progression to third-level colleges in Ireland and the UK or direct employment opportunities. Full awards are both nationally and internationally recognised through the National Framework of Qualifications (www.nfq.ie)
Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute also delivers a comprehensive programme of evening classes that lead to awards such as a full QQI Awards in Childcare or a single QQI Module in Radio, Photography, and Payroll. DFEi also offers adult education and lifelong learning opportunities though art, beauty, computing, DIY and media courses. In addition hobby (personal interest) courses are also provided. Some examples of the courses on offer are: Languages (Italian and Spanish), Job-Seeking, Silk Painting, Stock Market Investment, Woodwork, Public Relations, First Aid, Creative Writing, Bicycle Maintenance, Dog Grooming, and Dressmaking. In 1975 A Community College was opened in Cumberland Street under the statutory authority of Dun Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee. The name of the college has changed a few times, but the high standards has always been maintained. In July 2013 Dun Laoghaire VEC merged with County Dublin VEC to form the Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board.
Classes run from September to December and from January to April on a Monday and Tuesday Night. As a non-profit organisation, Dun Laoghaire Further Education Institute DFEi only charges the minimum fee necessary to cover costs.
DFEi is located at the Monkstown end of Dun Laoghaire. It is a five minute walk from both Dun Laoghaire and Salthill & Monkstown DART stations and is well served by bus routes 7, 7B, 45, 46A, 63, 59, 75 and 111. There is ample free parking on site for night classes.

Dressmaking/Soft Furnishings The ideal course for those who wish to learn the skills of dressmaking and soft furnishing. Both areas covered, subject to student choice. Following patterns, design and developing skills to the finished article. Sewing machines are available. |
Folklore of Ireland This course offers an insight into the rich heritage that is unique to Ireland. It covers Irish mythology legends folktales and customs unique to Ireland. The course also covers folk medicine and includes a field trip (To be announced). |
Guitar for Beginners Learning to play guitar the fast and easy way. Students will quickly develop a good understanding of chords and strumming patterns which, can be applied to a lot of lyrics across all music genres. Students will require a guitar and a plectrum. |
Springtime Gardening Includes: understanding the soil, composting, essential tools, seed-sowing, transplanting, fruit growing, vegetables and herbs. Plan a herbaceous border and maximise summer colour in the garden. Course will include two garden visits. |
Violin and Music - an Introduction This Course covers, choosing a violin, tuning a violin, caring for a violin, the chords of the violin and using a Metronome. Also, playing famous classical pieces and a chance to play with an orchestra, (Saint Agnes Crumlin to be announced). |
Beekeeping (Online) All you need to know about getting started in beekeeping. Managing the bees, the life cycle of the colony, bee diseases, treatments, feeding, swarm control and harvesting honey as a crop. Course delivered by a third generation beekeeper. |
