Irish Literature – From Macken to Meehan
Martin Keaveney Creative Writing
What is Irish Literature? This course attempts to answer that question by reflecting on the past century of writing by reading the work of Walter Macken, William Trevor, Jennifer Johnston, Seamus Heaney, Paula Meehan, Ryan Dennis, Louise Nealon and Alvy Carragher. Through discussion of works and writers from early 20th century right up to 2021, and using interviews, newspaper reviews and other relevant material, participants will gain an appreciation and understanding of Irish Literature as it was in the 20th century, is today and might become in the future. Includes weekly video. Suitable for the literature enthusiast and also ideal for those preparing to attend/return to third level study. INTERACTIVE – attend interactive Video Conference discussion (Zoom) 6.30 – 7.45pm weekly & receive material by email including video of a recorded lecture each week.

PHONE – phone in to hear interactive class and receive material by email with a video of a prerecorded lecture each week.
POST – receive material by email with a podcast on USB key of a prerecorded lecture each week.
FLEXI – meet tutor remotely for 30 minute discussion weekly at mutual time and receive all course material by email.
