Course Description

Diploma Sport and Exercise Psychology

IBAT College, Dublin

This course is targeted at prospective students who have no prior knowledge of psychology. A key part of success in sports and exercise, both on a personal and professional level, is the ability of the person to understand the role that psychology plays in the attainment of successful results. Leading sports people now actively work closely with a sports psychologist as they recognise the competitive advantage which may create from understanding this rapidly evolving area.

Students will be introduced to the concept of motivation and the relevance of a person’s personality type. They will learn about the role self-confidence plays in your day to day behaviour in relation to exercise. The concept of stress, an ever growing factor, in how we behave is discussed. Goal setting is examined in depth, and the challenges which we present to ourselves by placing too much pressure to attain too many goals.
