A Beginners Photography (6:30 Class)

Dublin Camera Club



The next 6.30 class will commence on 22nd January.  It is available to book on line now.

Each class is dedicated to a particular topic – including:

  • Cameras and Equipment,
  • Exposure,
  • Composition,
  • Monochrome Photography,
  • Darkroom Printing and Enlarging,
  • Holiday and Travel Photography,
  • Landscape Photography and more

The cost of the course is €120 inclusive of all materials and notes.

Persons taking the classes are automatically enrolled in the club as Associate Members for the duration of the classes.  Persons enrolling in the classes may apply for full membership of the club for at a discounted rate of €60 (normally €120).

Following the end of the course members can participate in a series of Workshops at no extra charge.  These are on alternate Mondays and cover a range of additional topics.

Classes and Dates, Course details – all dated refer to the January 2020 course. 

Classes on Wednesdays commencing at 6.30pm or 8.30pm
You can enrol for one or the other times.

1. INTRODUCTION TO CAMERAS AND EQUIPMENT Wednesday January 22nd
An introduction to the different types of cameras, lenses and accessories, with an explanation of their uses and applications.
2. EXPOSURE PART 1 Wednesday January 29th
An explanation of the various exposure techniques which may be used in film and digital cameras; their uses and the effects obtainable.
3. COMPOSING THE PHOTOGRAPH Wednesday February 5th
Arranging the elements of the picture to produce the most pleasing effect; what to avoid and some of the rules which may be used to improve your pictures.
4. ESSENTIAL IMAGE EDITING Wednesday February 12th
Transferring your images from camera to computer and using simple image editors to enhance images for greatest effect.
5. MONOCHROME PHOTOGRAPHY Wednesday February 19th
An introduction to monochrome photography with all its beautiful particularities and challenges.
6. DARKROOM PRINTING & ENLARGING Wednesday February 26th
A practical demonstration showing the various techniques involved in producing enlarged prints from 35mm black and white negatives.
7. LANDSCAPE & TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY Wednesday March 4th
How to capture memorable images whilst exploring nature and on holiday, handling typical challenges which may arise.
8. EXPOSURE – PART 2 Wednesday March 11th
Revisiting the concepts of exposure with examples of practical situations.
9. COURSE SUM-UP Wednesday March 18th
A summing up of some of the main points raised during the course and advice on what to do next.

It is hoped that students will be encouraged to showcase some of their images in an exhibition at the end of the course.  More details as the course progresses.
