The National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) is a system of ten levels. Each certificate relates to an education or training achievement. Level 1 and 2 Certificates cover basic literacy and numeracy. The Junior Certificate is a Level 3 award. The Leaving Certificate is at Levels 4 and 5. Advanced and Higher Certificates are Level 6 awards. Ordinary Bachelor Degrees are at Level 7. The Honours Bachelor Degree and the Higher Diploma both fall at Level 8. The Masters Degree and the Postgraduate Diploma are at Level 9. Doctoral Degrees and High Doctorates are Level 10 awards.
