Interested in Social Care as a career?  Open Training College (OTC) is currently receiving online applications for the BA in Social Care degree programme:

The deadline for applications is September 9th, 2020.

Upcoming Applicants Day:

Thursday, September 10th: This date is an opportunity for those who have applied to further discuss their choice of course with the OTC team. It includes an information session and informal interviews for applicants of the BA in Social Care and will take place by Zoom meeting. No need for anyone to have to travel for this event.

This course is designed for people who want to attain the standards of proficiency for social care workers as defined by CORU.

The learner will engage with 18 modules that explore social care practice and how it applies in various social care settings. Students will complete over 800 hours of supervised practice placement, in a social care setting. This qualification is designed to lead to social care registration subject to CORU approval.

What are my career opportunities with this degree?

That is a very important question to ask at this time.

The BA in Social Care equips students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to work in a variety of social care contexts. Employment opportunities exist in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors in a variety of community-based and residential settings.

With the introduction of CORU Registration and Regulation, there will be a requirement for Social Care Workers to be qualified with a minimum level 7 award. Social Care workers typically work with services for:

  • People with disabilities
  • Children in Care
  • Marginalised and Minority groups
  • Addiction
  • Homelessness
  • Family support
  • Older People

The OTC, like all the other colleges and universities offering Social Care degrees today, is seeking approval from CORU for the BA in Social Care course. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this process has been delayed. OTC expect the process to be completed in 2022, to allow for the opening of the CORU register for Social Care Workers in 2023.
