Established in 1986, The Sound Training Centre identified a need for job specific, employment focused training, to cater for the entertainment industry's need for qualified personnel.
The Sound Training Centre courses and examinations have effectively set standards for training within the industry.
City and Guilds (1820) Parts 1, 2 + 3.
STC Music Technology Diploma
The syllabus has been developed in conjunction with employers and is regularly updated to reflect technological advances and variations in employers requirements.
In addition to technical training, an introduction to the structure of the industry is provided as part of each course.
Because of the practical nature of the industry, the Sound Training Centre places a strong emphasis on the 'hands on' element of the courses.
Every student is given the opportunity to run their own recording sessions and in the case of the state production courses, to take charge of production of a live performance situation.
The courses are delivered by a team of experienced industry professionals, all of whom are acknowedged experts in the music business. Additional specialised areas of the course are taught by a panel of guest lecturers. Past lecturers have included Elvis Costello, Tim Fin (ex-Crowded House), and Daniel Lanois (Record Producer of 'The Joshua Tree' by U2).
The Sound Training Centre has an impressive placement record and a high proportion of past pupils have secured employment as a direct result of the courses.
Our expertise in the area of music industry training and our excellent technical facilities, has now been commissioned to run courses for a number of other organisations.
