Who we are

St Patrick’s College, Thurles, founded in 1837, has a rich history of learning in the areas of Theology, Philosophy and the humanities. Today, it is one of the newest teacher training colleges in the country with some of the most up to date facilities. Its central location (on the main train line between Dublin and Cork and just minutes from the main Dublin-Cork motorway) makes it an attractive location for those who wish to experience college life in a smaller but more personal setting. Students benefit from a combination of dedicated staff, individual attention and a friendly learning environment in a picturesque and rural location that is steeped in history and culture.

The college offers a four-year BA in Education, Business Studies and Religious Studies (accredited by HETAC) for students who wish to teach Religious Education and Business subjects up to Leaving Cert in the secondary school sector. It will also be offering (from September 2009) a new four-year BA programme in Education, Irish and Religious Studies. These full-time courses offer an in-built professional teaching qualification and students gain valuable and ongoing practical teaching experience throughout.

In addition, St Patrick’s College offers a part-time three-year BA Theology degree (accredited by HETAC) and a variety of attractive shorter programmes. It is now one of the constituent providers of courses for the NOSTRA programme - New Openings in Theology and Religious Studies (www.nostra.ie), an innovative and exciting collaborative venture between a number of educational and pastoral institutions in the Munster region.
