Who we are?
Welcome to NUI Galway's Adult and Continuing Education programmes. Education and learning extend from the cradle to the grave. We would like you to explore what we at NUI Galway can offer you, a potential adult learner. Whether you want to study full-time or part-time, for personal pleasure or to enhance your career prospects, whether you live near Galway or further away, whether you have a lot or a little formal education up to now - keep reading, investigate the possibilities, consider which path you might like to take, consider which option suits you.

What can I study at NUI Galway as an adult learner?
NUI Galway offers a wide range of part-time programmes for adult learners, covering many different subject areas. Many of our courses offer you an opportunity for professional development while enrolment on other courses is motivated more by personal interest and a desire for self-development.

Our programmes cover a broad range of subjects such as Business/Management, Information Technology, Social Care, Archaeology, History, English Literature, Community Development, Languages, Science/Technology and many others. Many of these programmes lead to a recognised NUI award, a Certificate, a Diploma, a Degree or Masters. Certificate programmes usually last one year. A Diploma programme usually lasts two years, a Degree programme can take four years while a Masters programmes usually takes two years to complete. We also run a series of short liberal education courses extending across a wide range of disciplines, which do not lead to an award. Click here for a full list of options to see whether we have a programme that interests you.

You are not on your own…..
As many of the students registering for adult education programmes have been away from formal education for some time, it is understandable that they may be fearful of returning to the classroom, submitting assignments and doing written examinations. Some adult learners doubt their own ability to succeed and tend not to register at all. Staff at the Adult and Continuing Education Office are very aware of these anxieties and fully appreciate how daunting a programme of study can be. Equally, our lecturers and tutors are conscious of the many difficulties that students experience in returning to education. They are fully supportive of your decision to embark on a course of study and are there to assist you in any way possible. All you have to do is ask!

Additional study, examination technique and applied writing workshops are generally offered to students on our Diploma and Degree programmes. These are provided outside of regular class hours and assist students in preparing course assignments and preparing for end of semester examinations.
