Who we are

Liberties College is a college of further education under the management of the City of Dublin Vocational Education Committee. We are situated in the historic Liberties/Coombe area beside St. Patrick’s Cathedral and only a short walk from the city centre of Dublin. The College has over 700 full time and 200 part-time students with a teaching staff of over 70.

We offer a range of Post-Leaving Certificate and Adult Education courses. The principal certifying bodies are: FETAC/NCVA (Further Education and Training Awards Council), MACTE/AMS (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education/American Montessori Society), IACP Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and CISCO.

Liberties College has a unique reputation for quality training in the areas of:

The College is only a 6minute walk from Grafton Street and we are the nearest PLC College to Dublin City Centre. We are only 15 minutes walking distance from Tara Street Dart Station, 25 minutes from walking distance from Heuston Station and only 15 minutes from Connolly Station.

This foundation course in Maternity care trains the student in the skills necessary to work as a Health Care Assistant (HCA). The HCA works under supervision to assist nurses and midwives.

Department of Childhood Studies, Montessori & Community Care
Welcome to the Department of Childhood Studies, Montessori & Community Care, our range of courses are as follows:

Childhood Studies

Childcare Certificate - FETAC
This full-time course enables students to combine the study of Childcare
(0-7 years) and Montessori Method (2½-6 years).
The course is ideally suited to school leavers or anyone new to the area of early childhood education.

Childcare Management
This one-year course is suited to students with previous experience or training in Childcare who wish to progress to positions at supervisory or management level.

Childcare Diploma NNEB
The CACHE Diploma in Childcare and Education (DCE) is an internationally recognized and respected qualification. This Diploma permits the graduate to work as a nursery nurse and take up supervisory positions in most childcare establishments in Ireland and abroad. The employment prospects for a qualified nursery nurse are excellent.

Montessori

Montessori and Childcare - FETAC
This full-time course enables students to combine the study of Childcare
(0-7 years) and Montessori Method (2½-6 years).
The course is ideally suited to school leavers or anyone new to the area of early childhood education.

Montessori Diploma
(2½ -6 years) This one-year full time course is suited to students with previous experience or training in Childcare. It covers the Montessori Philosophy and Curriculum and prepares students to work as Montessori Teachers.

Community Care

Community Care
Care of the Special Child In this course students specialise in the care of the child or adult with a mental or physical disability. This is a joint training programme between the Central Remedial Clinic Clontarf and Liberties College.

Youth and Community Work
A course suitable for people seeking initial training in youth and community work and those with some experience who wish to undertake structured training to develop and consolidate their skills. This is a joint training programme between the City of Dublin Youth Services Board and Liberties College.

Applied Social Studies
This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of social studies and social care. The course will interest, among others students wishing to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience before applying for third level college places in Social Care.

Counselling
This is a comprehensive two-year full-time professional counselling course with a strong commitment to community based work. The course offers core training to a wide range of people. While building on existing skills the course proposes to model and teach a person centred philosophy of counselling.

Department of Communications, Performance & Design

Welcome to the Department of Design and Media, our range of courses are as follows:

Communications

Media Production - Foundation / Development
Students receive a thorough basic training and gain practical experience in a range of video and radio production skills. All students engage in programme planning and produce a body of television and radio work.

Broadcast Media Production - Advanced
An advanced course in broadcast media production for students with previous training or work experience in radio, television or video production. Students specialise in one professional area.

Performance

Performance - Foundation / Development
A course in Acting which emphasises the value of live performance in the development of an actor. Formal training to a high standard is provided alongside rehearsal and production schedules.

Performance - Advanced / Professional
An advanced course in performance and theatre for students with previous training. This full-time course is entirely production orientated.

Design

Interior Design
This course covers the fundamentals of design and visual studies. A strong emphasis is placed on drawing and on exploring a range of media and materials.

Portfolio Preparation
This course covers the fundamentals of design and visual studies. A strong emphasis is placed on drawing and on exploring a range of media and materials.

Department of Tourism & IT

Welcome to the Department of Tourism & IT, our range of courses are as follows:

Tourism and Travel
This foundaton course offers a full introduction to tourism and to the travel sector of international tourism. The focus is on quality customer service and on developing the skills needed by people in this customer orientated industry.

Cisco Networking & Information Technology
This is a two-year full-time course training people for employment in the computer networking field. By 2008, there will be over 700,000 unfilled computer networking jobs in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Consequently the employment prospects for graduates of the course are excellent. No prior IT experience necessary. This is a course suitable for the school-leaver and mature student.

Department of Adult Community Education

Welcome to the Department of Adult Community Education, our range of courses are as follows:

Leaving Certificate for Adults (21 years +)
This is a two-year part-time course for adults who wish to return to education and complete the Leaving Certificate. The Leaving Certificate is the main pathway into employment and opens doors to Higher and Further Education.

Leaving Certificate for Adults (18 - 20 years)
This is a two-year part-time course for young adults who wish to return to education and complete the Leaving Certificate. It is designed for students who did not complete their secondary education.We aim to offer the support and assistance for the duration of the course.

Evening School
A variety of Special Interest and Certificate Courses.
