About Us

If you are interested in a career as a Homeopathic Practitioner or interested in a holistic approach to your own healthcare and the healthcare of your family we have various courses at the Irish School of Homoeopathy which will suit your needs.  Our professional course is a four year part-time course and is fully accredited by the Irish Society of Homeopaths www.irishhomeopathy.ie - which means that graduates will be automatically accepted onto the Society's professional register.  At present Vivas and Quinn Healthcare will reimburse its members if they visit a registered homeopath.  At our weekend workshop we aim to equip you with the skills and tools necessary for safe and competent acute home prescribing.  The workshop is interactive and you are encouraged to participate fully- with lots of practical case-taking for you to put your newly acquired skills to use. 'Homeopathy & Nutrition - a guide to healthy living' is a short course in homeopathy & nutrition as a guide to achieve optimum health in modern day living.

Do you wish to change your career and work in the caring profession. The art and science of homeopathy embody what many envision as a truly twenty first century medicine today; and increasingly this complementary and alternative medicine is the chosen discipline for those who wish to work in the caring profession, because of its gentle and holistic nature.

A german Doctor Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843) is the modern day founder of Homeopathy and he tested the principle of like curing like -(initially with his experiments with Peruvian bark -a treatment for Malaria – find out more at our website's homeopathy simplified section www.homoeopathy.ie/simplified.html). Homeopathy is essentially a holistic therapy and treats the individual person rather than diagnosed diseases, it recognises that individual people function on several levels: mental; emotional, and physical. The primary focus of a patient’s disorder may be on any of these levels and all of these levels are taken into account when prescribing during the homoeopathic consultation. It takes 4 years to train as a Homoeopathic Practitioner at our professional training course and lectures are held at weekends and there are also regional tutorials for student groups.

We provide weekend workshops in homoeopathic acute prescribing to teach the general public how to use remedies safely and competently for acute, non-serious ailments but for chronic, or long-term illnesses, you should consult a professional homeopath.

Our Students and Graduates

All of our students are mature students and come from a wide range of professions including those listed below. There are also students from many alternative therapies and the medical profession . To find out more about our students and our courses please visit our website.

Aideen Higgins was once a full-time horticulturalist. She is now Homoeopathic Practitioner and runs a busy practice. “I was looking around for an alternative to gardening”, she said, “I am a natural nurturer and have an interest in the healing properties of plants and this is what initially prompted me to attend an introductory workshop. The workshop was very informative and practical and I was hooked.”

Aideen, who is a trained teacher of garden design, found herself on the other side of the classroom at Milltown College, Ranelagh where she studied homoeopathy for four years.

She was able to attend courses at weekends and continue with her job in horticulture. “The course itself was a wonderful experience for me. It widened and deepened my understanding of health and wellbeing. If it had not been a part-time course, I would not have been unable to train as a homoeopath. The Irish School of Homoeopathy is very encouraging of mature students who have the life experience that will prove invaluable in the homoeopathic clinic. Counselling skills training is an essential part of the course, as are medical sciences.”

The various people who come to Aideen have all sorts of ailments. “People come to me with various conditions; and migraine, eczema, asthma and women’s complaints are included among the many ailments I treat with homeopathy.

People also come to me with emotional traumas, anxiety and depression. My job, says Aideen, is to look at the person holistically and not just at the physical symptoms. I find that the stresses of everyday living are often too much for the mind and body. Many illnesses are as a result of our lifestyle.”

Roger Lee (A.C.M.A.) Accountant and Graduate
“I first came to homeopathy because I knew from personal experience that the process worked. Since I came to study at professional level at the Irish School of Homeopathy, a whole new way of looking at health has opened up to me. I find the lecturers are both innovative, highly informative and also entertaining. I feel this is a profession in its development phase.

There is endless scope for students to be part of and influence this profession and its future development and I intend to be one of them”.

Mairead Kennedy Computer Programmer and student I felt attracted to homoeopathy as a profession because of its holistic nature, working with the body rather than against it. I am seeking to change my career to something which is more in line with my value system and beliefs in life; and more than anything else I want to help people. I felt the study of homoeopathy would be a challenging area and give me an opportunity for constant learning and personal growth and I am not disappointed after my first 2 years of study. I look forward to the next stage of study in 3rd year when I can put into practise what I have learned academically when I start the practical module, during clinical training within the school clinic”.
