Government considering range of options on third-level fees

Education Minister Batt O'Keeffe has said the Government is considering a number of options in relation to the reintroduction of third-level fees.<br /><br />Mr O'Keeffe has repeatedly stated his support for the move, despite widespread anger from students, who say it will prevent thousands of people from going to college.<br /><br />Speaking today, however, the minister said the current system of free third-level education could not continue given the disastrous state of the public finances.<br /><br />Mr O'Keeffe, who is preparing a report on the matter for Cabinet, says he is considering up-front fees, a loans system or a combination of both in order to raise revenue.
