Manifesto for senior learners launched

Aontas, the National Adult Learning Organisation, has launched a Manifesto for Senior Learners, reflecting the views of participants at the Senior Learner Network Meeting, which was held during the recent Adult Learners' Festival (www.adultlearnersfestival.com).

The Manifesto promotes the needs and rights of senior learners, a fast growing community given the fact 36% of the population will be over 50 by the year 2025. The document also highlights the link between education and good health and an active social life for senior citizens.

The Manifesto includes tearaway sections that Aontas recommends are passed on to candidates and canvassers in the upcoming local and European elections. These sections list 5 principles of senior learner education, and the corresponding actions that need to be taken by policymakers.
