Maths: Strategies for Teaching Maths in Primary School



This practical course highlights the importance of allowing pupils to work with concrete materials while practising the language of Mathematics from Junior Infants to Sixth Class, looking at each of the strands in the Mathematics Curriculum.

The course also looks at assessment of numeracy skills and how this important area of the curriculum is linked to planning and teaching in the classroom. This course provides teachers with a practical approach to the teaching of Mathematics from junior infants to sixth class, looking at each of the strands in the Maths Curriculum.

It highlights the importance of allowing pupils to work with concrete materials while practising the language of Mathematics, and allows teachers to look at the strands and strand units, providing them with opportunities and strategies to engage with actual lessons and practical lesson plans. In conclusion, the course allows teachers to look at assessment and how this important area of the curriculum is linked to their planning and teaching in the classroom.
