Early Childhood Education
This course examines definitions of educational psychology and explores some of the relevant teaching and learning theories that have emerged from psychology. The course identifies the various different stages of communication development in Early Childhood Education, the difficulties some children may experience and how to help them with these difficulties.
This course examines the different early childhood approaches including Aistear, Síolta, Montessori, Froebel, High Scope and Head Start; the necessary skills children need to develop to make the most of their play and the importance of play and its educational benefit to young children. This course also contains a presentation on the new DES Primary Language Curriculum, 2016. The presentation will look at the new Language Curriculum, its background, how it differs from the 1999 English Curriculum, integration and the inter-connected components of the new curriculum.
The course provides a basic understanding of Autistic Spectrum Disorder especially with regard to the area of communication development. Finally, this course provides participants with the skills to develop positive classroom management skills and to understand the importance of positive partnership with parents.
