Infant Education: Literacy Across the Curriculum
This course covers the curricular areas of oral language, reading and writing and the teaching of these core subjects in the Infant classes. It looks at the importance of planning, assessment and creating a positive teaching and learning environment. This course also contains a presentation on the new DES Primary Language Curriculum, 2016. The presentation will look at the new Language Curriculum, its background, how it differs from the 1999 English Curriculum, integration and the inter-connected components of the new curriculum. This course is designed for teachers who are currently teaching or who plan to teach infant classes in the future. It explores the importance of creating a positive teaching and learning environment for infants. The core skills of literacy – oral language, reading and writing – are all discussed in relation to planning for teaching, practical approaches and assessment.
