Five years ago I had no qualifications and I wasn t sure what I would do with my life or what career I wanted to pursue. Then two years ago I realised I really wanted to work in childcare, working with children was always the area that I was most interested in, and I decided to do a course so I could get employment in the area. This is why I chose to do a FETAC Level 5 in Childcare as well as one in Special Needs.

I found that the homework on the course was the greatest obstacle I faced, there was a lot of it and it was hard to find the time for it. It was a real struggle but I just kept going. Finishing the childcare course and passing the exams was great. It felt so rewarding and was extremely beneficial as this is the area that I want to work in. I was very proud of getting the graduation certificate at the end of the course.

The greatest change I went through in my education and subsequent career was becoming more confident in what I was doing, now I feel I am ready for a career in working with children; my courses have prepared me to expect disaster!

I would consider education to be really important in life as you can achieve so much through learning. It makes a person more aware of things and gives people opportunities to work in different areas. I think that if people don t like what they re doing, they shouldn t be scared to change; they should just go for it.
